Recording with the Soloists

Gerard Delrez

Martin travelled to South London recently to meet our Bass soloist, Gerard Delrez. The result of this session was that three sections of the Bass solo part were recorded with piano and voice. Following his return to Somerset, Martin added the orchestral parts and the results can be heard as clips on the website.

Gerard’s voice brings a whole new depth to the role and we are looking forward to hearing more. Martin said, “It is a real pleasure working with Gerard. I am particularly pleased with his diction which enables every syllable to be heard clearly. This can often be a problem in a venue such as Well Cathedral, but I don't think that we are going to suffer!”

Marta Fontanals-Simmons

Marta Fontanals-Simmons kindly recorded 'Reflection' some months ago in All Saints’ church in Castle Cary, her home town. This is also on the website and has been very well received, with over 300 'hits'. What is even more remarkable about this recording was that Marta and Martin recorded the track without rehearsal, and the track that you can hear on the website was the first take.

All it remains to do is capture the sound of Jonathan Ansell (which should be done by the time you read this, so please check the link on the website) and we will get a true feeling of the sound that we will get at the cathedral.
